Announcing Improvements for Elementor Integration & Anti-Spam, +More

Editorial Note: We may earn a commission when you visit links on our website.

Building your forms should be as easy as possible. And protecting your forms should be simple too.

So that’s why we’re beyond excited to introduce you to WPForms 1.6.2 and all the cool new features inside.

Strap in because our latest release has some fantastic updates we think you’re going to love.

Elementor Integration Improvements

First up, we’d like to introduce you to the new Elementor Integration for WPForms.

Previously, the only way to use WPForms inside the Elementor builder was to search through tons of different widgets. Now, there’s a new WPForms Elementor widget to make creating forms seamless within the Elementor builder.

This is a great way to help Elementor users discover WPForms so they can have a fantastic form building experience while building their website. There’s a complete workflow built inside of Elementor that walks people through making a form.

On top of that, let’s say you’re in the Elementor builder and realize you need to update something in your contact form. You can simply click on Edit the selected form from directly within Elementor, and your form will be updated.

With this new integration, Elementor users can create a simple contact form or edit one in seconds, all within the builder. If you need them, we’ve put together detailed instructions on how to add WPForms to an Elementor page.

New Anti-Spam Protection

On all new forms, you’ll notice the old Honeypot spam feature has been replaced by the new Anti-Spam Protection.

The Honeypot feature was a good solution to help protect our user’s forms. But, as we grew, we realized we needed to create even tighter security to combat bots. Moving forward, all new forms created will default to having Anti-Spam Protection turned on.

Any form created before the WPForms 1.6.2 release will continue to have the Honeypot option. This new settings option can be enabled on older forms, but new forms won’t display Honeypot as an option to switch back to.

See Pricing on Order Forms

Payment fields are getting even more clear for your customers. We heard you loud and clear that you wanted to be able to show individual prices on your order forms. So we made payment fields even better, and you now have the ability to show the cost of each item with just a click.

In your form’s settings, simply click on Show price after labels if you want to automatically display the price of items in payment fields.

Previously, individually prices didn’t show in the list so you couldn’t see the amount without looking at the total. Now, your order forms are even more clear.

Extra Guidance For Adding Forms

It’s now even easier to add your forms to your WordPress site with the new Form Embed Wizard.

Before this update, when you clicked embed, you’d see a shortcode with directions on where and how to place it. Shortcodes are cool, but the WordPress ecosystem changes fast, and we wanted to make sure our plugin is simple and beginner-friendly in every way.

So, the new Form Embed Wizard will guide you through embedding your form, both for existing pages on your site as well as brand new ones.

If you create a brand new page, all the work is done for you and we’ll embed the form you just created into that page automatically. If you’re adding it to an existing page, the Wizard will walk you through the process step-by-step.

Make sure to check out our video tutorial on embedding forms for more details.

New & Improved WPForms Challenge

Last but certainly not least, the WPForms Challenge has been updated and unleashed onto the world!

There’s a brand new WPForms Challenge that shows up when someone is just getting started. It’s radically improved and should make it even easier to build your first form while learning the ins and outs of how to use WPForms … all in under 5 minutes.

Previously, some people found it hard to complete the challenge on smaller screens without the Challenge modal getting in the way. So now, we’ve got a sleeker, more modern modal. There’s a welcome screen, and we took care to make sure the challenge area doesn’t get in the way of your work, even on smaller screens.

Once you hit complete on the challenge, you’ll now be prompted to embed your form into a new page automatically or an existing page in just seconds.

We wanted to make it even easier for anyone of any skill level to build their very first forms, and we think the new WPForms Challenge hits the mark even better than before.

Other Important Improvements

It’s worth mentioning that we have a lot of other great updates in WPForms 1.6.2. Here are some other notable improvements you’ll find:

  • Modern File Upload – This field is now compatible with even more hosting environments and configurations.
  • Timestamps on Form Entries – You’ll now see timestamps in the date column for form entries.
  • Word Count in Limit Length Field Improvements – We’ve adjusted the accuracy of word counts based on differences in input styles. (For example, 1,000 vs 1000).
  • Improved Number Field – Different browsers are often changing how number fields work. So we’ve added an extra layer of protection to make sure this field works correctly no matter which browser or device is being used.
  • Form Field Validation Adjustments – Form field validation will now fail if the input mask is turned on and the user doesn’t complete the entire input mask.
  • And More…

And that’s all for today and the monumental WPForms 1.6.2 update. We hope this release makes building your forms simpler and easier than it’s ever been.

Make sure to let us know if you have any thoughts on all these new improvements. We genuinely love hearing from you and learning what will help you with your website’s continued success.

So what are you waiting for?

Head to your WordPress dashboard, update to WPForms 1.6.2, and give the newest version of WPForms a go.

    1. Hey Wayne,

I am sorry as currently, we do not have the inbuilt ability to calculate Tax/Vat/ or any other additional calculation as you’ve mentioned. I have added your vote to the feature request, hopefully, the dev team can consider this for the future.

In case if it helps, you can add a description to the Total field to let your users know if it includes tax/vat.

      I hope this helps! 🙂

  1. I noticed that password submitted by customers are visible in plain text. This means that if anyone hacks the site, that they could easily view an entry and see a customers potential password used on other sites.

    1. Hey Remy- I am sorry for the confusion you are facing here!

The password stored as an entry in the Entries page is stored as a hidden password. In case you are curious, here is a screencast I have recorded for your reference.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions about this, please feel welcome to get in touch

Thanks and have a good one 🙂

  2. WPForms wins our hearts over and over. Thank you for continuing to improve. Just when we think you’re done… BOOM! You get even better!

  3. I would love to see surveys and interactive polls with real-time results and “no wrong answer” Facebook-style quizzes added to the roadmap. I currently am using a competing form plug-in to get this done, would be nice having this done on just one plug-in.

    1. Hey Jeffrey – Those are some great ideas, we will have them on our radar for our future roadmap. Thanks for the suggestions!

  4. Can you please tell us more about the New Anti-Spam Protection? What is it doing exactly and what’s different compared to how the honeypot worked?

    Thanks 🙂

    1. Hey Albert – Sure! I will try to explain some insights here. The concept of a honeypot is to have an empty field in the form and if spambots fill something in that field and submit the form, we can detect the spam submission. Spambots are getting smarter these days so honeypot is not that much secure anymore. Advance bots know how to bypass the honeypot field.

The new anti-spam feature works similar to honeypot but it is a bit more secured as it adds an extra field in the form but it is not empty, it has some unique id assigned which is associated with that particular form and all this is done via Javascript on run time so bots can’t detect it that easily. If you are aware of WordPress Nonces, we are doing something similar here.

      I hope this info helps!

  5. Glad to see you guys constantly are working on new features and updates. Great software.

Can you test to verify and update this to work with the WordPress 5.5.

    Compatibility with WordPress 5.5: Unknown
Warning: This plugin has not been tested with your current version of WordPress.

    1. Hey there – It has been done now, you should not see that message anymore. Please let us know if any further assistance is needed on this?

      Have a good one 🙂

  6. And or and else option on selection fields to show more diverse fields based on selection would be very welcomed. I have not managed to find a workaround for this yet.

  7. We really need an ‘add another participant’ or ‘add another user’ as out client’s don’t want to redo a completely new form from scratch for 80 participants they want to register for a service or event.

Perhaps when they start a new form, the company name, address and other information (already filled in previously) auto completes the form and only leaves out the new required fields i.e. new participant name and email.

    1. Hey Nandi – We already have these noted as feature requests in our system. I have gone ahead and added your vote to it so that the dev team can consider this for the future.

      Thanks for the suggestions!

    1. You can safely disable the honeypot as the new anti-spam feature is should be much more effective. Using both at the same time should work without issues, but due to the evolution of spammers/spambots the honeypot field provides very limited protection. Hope that helps!

  8. I run WP forms on an AMP site using the ampforwp compatibility plugin – in AMP, the new anti-spam feature breaks the forms (and, sometimes the entire page too). Looking at Abhishek’s comments, I’m guessing it’s a javascript error that breaks it. But CAPTCHA still works just fine.

    1. Hey Ed – Great question! This new anti-spam feature works on JavasScript, so if anything is breaking/stopping Javascript(like an AMP plugin will ideally do), this might create issues in getting the form submitted. The workaround here is to not use this feature and rely on other spam prevention things we have like reCaptcha or custom captcha. In general, anything related to JavaScript should create a problem with AMP plugins as they try to stop JavaScripts.

      I hope this info helps!

  9. Hello, I want to use WPforms to create an application form on a site. I want to know if the client would be able to download the result of the filled-in form in PDF format. Thank you.

    1. Hey Jedidiah – I am afraid there is no feature to automatically convert form submissions to pdf. We will keep that on our radar for the future. At the moment, you can manually print the individual entries to PDF using this tutorial.

      I hope this helps!

  10. Hi, I have the following message as soon as I want to integrate a WPForms 7 form (whatever the form) in a page via Gutenberg: Block loading error: Invalid parameter(s): attributes
Everything is up to date on my site (WP + plugin).
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Sylvain- I am sorry to hear that you are facing this issue. In order to troubleshoot this issue, we’ll need to log into your site. When you get a chance, please get in touch with our support team with additional details.

      Thanks! 🙂

  11. Hi Guys.

I love WPForms I have been using the free version in basic mode on my site for a year. Now I am planning to upgrade to pro, to capture and process much longer 120 item Questionnaire results. The results will need to entered into a spreadsheet for processing. So :

    1. Is there a way to either store the results in a CSV/excel format on my site?

    2. When the results arrive by email they are html formatted. Is there a way to send the email as a plain text? That is easier to parse and Ctrl+c into a spreadsheet.

    3. Is there a way to allocate a numerical value to a string value in a radio group multiple choice option. e.g user selects “agree” but a value of 1 is stored/reported “Disagree” value of 0 is stored/reported?

Many thanks, keep up the great work!

    1. Hey Liam- Great questions and we are happy to know that you upgrading to the Pro version!

      Please see the responses below:
      1. All form submissions are saved as entries in the WPForms > Entries page. Please see the detailed tutorial here.

      2. Yes, you can absolutely set the email notification as Plain Text here as shown here

      3. We do not have an inbuilt way to do what you have mentioned but can be achieved by adding a little custom code as shown here in the dev doc

I hope this helps! Thanks, and have a good one 🙂
