Welcoming WP Mail SMTP to the WPForms Family

Today, I’m excited to announce that we have acquired WP Mail SMTP, the most popular SMTP plugin for WordPress, with over 600,000 active installs.

Email deliverability has been a well-documented problem for all WordPress websites. However as WPForms grew, we became more aware of this painful issue that affect our users and the larger WordPress community.

Over the last year, we wrote several articles covering the different solutions on our blog and documentation (Quick search showed 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

After each article, the decision became clearer and clearer. We needed to solve this problem and make a solution that’s beginner friendly.

We debated making an addon for WPForms, but this problem is not unique to WPForms. It actually affects every WordPress website.

So instead, we decided to acquire the most popular SMTP plugin for WordPress – WP Mail SMTP.

Our goal is to leverage the authority and notoriety of this plugin to make a significant impact on the email deliverability issue that our users and the larger WordPress community faces today.

Before you ask, no we are not going to build an email deliverability service.

But rather we want to leverage the user base to “hopefully” negotiate better deals with established email deliverability services that will benefit both WPForms’ users as well as the larger WordPress community.

We will also use our UX experience to redesign the plugin and make it super easy to use or as I call it “make it beginner friendly”.

WP Mail SMTP will continue to operate as an independent plugin in the WordPress.org ecosystem. In other words, no you do not need to use the WPForms plugin to use WP Mail SMTP.

Although I don’t see why you wouldn’t. It is after all the best WordPress form builder #notbiased 🙂

We have started working on the redesign and new functionality. Realistically though it will not be live until the end of Q3 or early Q4.

If there’s a specific feature that you’d like for us to add, then please let us know in the comments below.

Thanks as always for your support. We have some more exciting stuff in the works for WPForms. Stay tuned for more announcements over the next few weeks.
