### Step 2: Create Your WordPress Form

Next up, you’ll need to create a form and publish it on your site. Once it’s live, you’ll be able to start [collecting entries](https://wpforms.com/how-do-i-see-entries-for-free-in-wpforms/ "collecting entries") so that you have some to export.

To do that, check out [how to create a simple contact form](https://wpforms.com/how-to-create-a-simple-contact-form-in-wordpress/). This tutorial will show you how to publish a contact form on a WordPress page in less than 5 minutes.

### Step 3: Export Form Entries to Excel

To get started exporting your form entries to Excel, head to your WordPress dashboard and click on **WPForms » Entries**. This is the [entry management](https://wpforms.com/features/entry-management/) screen where you’ll see a list of all the forms on your site, along with their entry counts.

![select-form-to-view-entries](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/select-form-to-view-entries-1024x734.png)Scroll down and hover over the form you want to export entries from and click on the **Entries** link.

![](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image-2-1024x404.png)This will take you to the Entries page for that specific form. To get started with the export, click on the **Export All** button.

![export entries wpforms](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/export-entries-wpforms-1024x512.png)On the next screen, you’ll see the name of the form in the dropdown. You’ll be able to select exactly which fields you want included in your export.

This is really helpful if your form has a lot of fields and you only need specific data, like names and email addresses.

If you want to see more details on the advanced export options, check out our documentation on [how to export form entries in WPForms](https://wpforms.com/docs/how-to-export-form-entries-to-csv-in-wpforms).

![wordpress form entries to excel](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wordpress-form-entries-to-excel.png)To export your form data to Excel, scroll down the page and click on the checkbox next to **Export in Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)**.

This is perfect when you need monthly or quarterly reports without downloading everything.

And if you need to find entries with specific field values, use the **Search** option to narrow things down before exporting. When you’re ready, click the orange **Download Export File** button under Export Options.

![download export file for excel from wordpress form](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/download-export-file-for-excel-from-wordpress-form.png)Your browser will download the file to your Downloads folder. Open it up, and Excel will display all your form entries in a clean spreadsheet.

![downloaded form data to excel xlsl](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/downloaded-form-data-to-excel-xlsl.png)If you’d prefer a CSV file instead of Excel, just leave the **Export in Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)** checkbox unchecked. WPForms exports in CSV format by default. We have a separate guide on how to [export your form entries to CSV](https://wpforms.com/how-to-export-wordpress-form-entries-to-csv/) if you want the full walkthrough.

### Step 4: Export a Single Entry (Optional)

This might be extra helpful if you have a longer form (like a[ multi-step form](https://wpforms.com/how-to-create-a-multi-part-form-in-wordpress/)) and just need the data from one lead.

For whatever reason you may need it, it’s super simple to export just a single form entry in WPForms.

To do this, navigate to **WPForms** » **Entries** and select the name of your form.

![Choose form on Entries overview page](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Choose-form-on-Entries-overview-page.jpg)Next, click on **View** to open the entry you want to export.

![view entry wpforms](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/view-entry-wpforms-1024x512.png)On the entry page, you’ll see the Export options on the right-hand side. Click on **Export (XLSX)**. The download should start right away as soon as you click on that button.

![export entry xlsx](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/export-entry-xlsx-1024x753.png)And now you’ve successfully exported a single form entry to XLSX so that you can open it in Excel. Simply open your downloaded file and if Excel is the default program for that file type, it will open your data.

### Bonus: Ways to Automate Your WordPress Form Exports

A manual export works for one-off downloads, but if you need form data on a regular basis, WPForms has a few built-in ways to automate things.

**Send Entries to Google Sheets in Real Time**

The [Google Sheets addon](https://wpforms.com/docs/google-sheets-addon/) (available with Pro and above) sends form entries straight to a Google spreadsheet the moment they’re submitted.

Just go to your form’s settings, connect your Google account, and pick the spreadsheet you want to use. After that, every new entry lands in your sheet automatically.

![google sheets addon settings](https://wpforms.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/google-sheets-addon-settings-1-1024x609.png)**Schedule Automatic Exports with Entry Automation**

If you need exports delivered to your inbox on a set schedule, the Entry Automation addon (available with Elite) can handle that.

Set it up to export your form entries daily, weekly, or monthly, and have the file sent to your email or saved to cloud storage like Google Drive or Dropbox. You can follow our guide on how to [automate your WPForms entry export](https://wpforms.com/how-to-automate-your-wpforms-entry-export/) for the full setup.

**Connect WPForms to Excel with Zapier**

WPForms also has a Zapier addon (available with Pro and above) that can automatically add new form entries as rows in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

If you specifically need your data flowing into Excel rather than Google Sheets, this is the way to go. You can find the setup details on the [WPForms Microsoft Excel integration](https://wpforms.com/integrations/microsoft-excel/) page.
